Process of making Damascene Jewlery:
Pure Gold and Sterling Silver is inlaid on a soft steel base, then chiseled out w/design.
Then bathed in nitric acid solution, brushed w/ ammonium hydroxide which is repeated for
48 hours. This step creates the dark, black background. The piece in then put in boiling Japanese green tea with prevents further oxidation. The surface is then coated w/mixture of lacquer and vegetable oil which is ignited and burned off. Piece is then polished w/soft charcoal which reveals the brilliance of natural gold and silver inlays.
