Vintage Corde' handbags from the 1940's were created using rows of gimp cord (twisted silk or cotton braid) in a unique pattern stitched to a fabric background. Lucite clasps, pulls, and handles were usually added to give these handbags a more distinctive look, while amber or faux Tortoiseshell Lucite accented others.

In the 1940's the Original Corde' handbags were advertised as the longest wearing of all the handbag fabrics. This claim still rings true since these handbags have traveled through time with refinement, elegance, and ability to last!
